Questions

Questions we get asked

How many litres does an average pool hold?
Multiply length by width by average depth in metres, then multiply by 1,000. An eight by four metre pool averaging 1.5 metres deep works out at about 48,000 litres. Depth is the part people get wrong, because most pools slope. Measure the shallow end and the deep end, then take the average. The estimator on this page does the arithmetic.
How long does it take to fill a tank?
Filling time comes down to the pump and the hose run rather than the size of the tank alone. A tanker pump moves water much faster than a garden tap. Once we have seen the access and the distance to the inlet we can tell you how long the fill will take.
Can the truck reach a pool at the back of a property?
Usually. The truck parks on the street or the driveway and hose runs from there to the pool. What matters is the distance and whether the hose can get through a gate or down the side of the house. Tell us the layout when you book and we will bring enough hose.
Do I need to be home?
It helps, because we can confirm where the water is going and check the fill point before anything starts. If you cannot be there, leave written instructions covering gate access, where to park and which tank or inlet to use. Let us know either way when you book.
How far can the hose run?
Long runs are normal in this work. Distance costs time and pressure rather than making the job impossible, and pushing water uphill is slower than running it downhill. Measure roughly from where a truck could park to the fill point, then tell us that number when you book.
Can I get water during restrictions?
Restrictions in Sydney are set by the water authority and change with dam levels and the season. They generally govern how water is used outdoors rather than banning carted water outright, and the rules for filling a new pool differ from topping up an existing one. Check what applies at your address before you book.
How much notice is needed?
Give as much notice as you can. Demand across the sector climbs over summer and through dry stretches, so a booking placed a few days out is easier to fit than a same day call. Tell us the date you need water by and we will tell you what is possible.
What access does the truck need?
Tankers are heavy vehicles, so they need firm ground, a clear run in and room to turn around or reverse out. Low branches, soft lawn, narrow gates and tight driveways are the usual problems. Send a photo of the access with your booking if you are not sure.
